Which room at SYLVAN Koh Chang? A guide to all 9 room types and who each one suits

Beach or clifftop, couple or family, a private pool or the fullest sea view: this guide walks through all 9 room types at SYLVAN step by step until you know which to book.

SYLVAN Koh Chang has 9 room types spread across 2 zones of the resort. Many guests open the rooms page and cannot decide, because the names sound alike and almost every room says "sea view". This guide walks you through the decision step by step: first the question that matters most, beach or clifftop, then who you are travelling with and what you want from the room, and finally a short description of each room. By the end you will know which one to book.

If you want the full specifications and photos of every room, go straight to our rooms page. This guide is here to help you choose, not to be a brochure.

At a glance: all 9 rooms in one table

Room Zone (building) Size Sleeps To the beach Best for
Reserve Beachfront Beach (A) 40 m² 2 30 m Couples, close to the lobby, pool and spa
Deluxe Beachfront Beach (B, with lift) 50 m² 2 30 m Couples or groups who want connecting rooms, sunset views
Reserve Ocean Beach (E) 56 m² 2 10 m Couples who want to be right by the water, circular bathtub
Reserve Suite Beach (E) 108 m² 2 5 m Honeymoons, full sea view from every room, jacuzzi on the balcony
Pool Villa Suite Beach (hill beside the beach) 224 m² 2 30 m Private pool, the most privacy and luxury
Deluxe Clifftop Clifftop (C, D) 61 m² 2 200 m, 5 min by funicular Sea view from above, lowest starting rate, elderly guests (building C), connecting rooms
Panorama Suite Clifftop (C, corner) 72 m² 2 200 m, 5 min by funicular View lovers, corner room with sea on two sides, jacuzzi
Junior Family Clifftop (D) 63 m² 3 200 m, 5 min by funicular Families of 3, next to the pool with the slide, pool and partial sea view
Deluxe Family Clifftop (C, ground floor) 80 m² 4 200 m, 5 min by funicular Families of 4, two bedrooms, garden and partial sea view

You can see where each room sits on the resort map above. Every room has a balcony or terrace, air conditioning, a separate shower and bathtub, a safe, Wi-Fi and breakfast included in the rate. Most rooms can be set up with either one king bed or two single beds. What differs is the location, the size, how many people the room sleeps, and the extras that only some rooms have.

What is the difference between Reserve and Deluxe? Reserve is our newly renovated collection in the beach zone (Reserve Beachfront, Reserve Ocean, Reserve Suite), designed for couples. Every Reserve room has a Nespresso coffee machine, a Bluetooth speaker and a Smart TV. Deluxe is the resort's classic room: more space at a lower starting rate, for guests who care more about location and price than extras in the room.

Ranked by starting rate from lowest to highest (actual rates depend on the season, see the rooms page): Deluxe Clifftop → Deluxe Beachfront → Junior Family → Deluxe Family → Panorama Suite → Reserve Beachfront → Reserve Ocean → Reserve Suite → Pool Villa Suite

Question 1: beach zone or clifftop zone

The resort's funicular linking the beach zone and the clifftop zone

This is the biggest decision, and the one that confuses people most. The resort runs from Kai Bae Beach up the hillside to a viewpoint about 100 metres above sea level, so the rooms are split into 2 zones. They are linked by the resort's own private funicular, which takes about 5 minutes, or you can ask reception for a buggy (allow around 10 minutes).

The beach zone is buildings A, B and E and the pool villas. A few steps out of your room and you are on the sand. In this zone you have the private beach, the Beachfront Pool with its pool bar and games room, the Kid's Club (next to the lower funicular station), the gym (floor 2 of building B), Sunset Beach Restaurant, Sylvie Café, Rainforest Spa and the lobby (the lobby is on the level of floor 3 of building A). The rooms in buildings A, B and E have just been renovated. Choose this zone if the sea is the main reason you are coming, if you want to swim several times a day, if you have small children who will not want to wait for the funicular, or if you want to watch the sunset from your balcony (building B faces exactly west). One thing to know: breakfast for every room is served at The Clifftop up on the cliff, so each morning means one ride up the funicular. Most guests see it as a highlight of the day rather than a chore, because it is the breakfast restaurant with the best view on Koh Chang. Only building B has a lift; in buildings A and E, floor 1 is the ground level.

The clifftop zone is buildings C and D, on top of the hill above the beach, with the sea seen from above and Kai Bae Beach and Koh Man Nai laid out in front of you. In this zone you have the Clifftop Pool with its slide, The Clifftop breakfast restaurant and the resort viewpoint. Choose this zone if you are coming for the view and the quiet, if you want to walk to breakfast without taking the funicular, or if you have children who will fall in love with the pool slide. The rooms for elderly guests and wheelchair users are also in building C, the same building as the breakfast restaurant. One thing to know: getting to the beach means a 5-minute funicular ride (200 metres). The funicular runs from 06:00 to 23:00; outside those hours you can call a buggy.

In short: come for the sea, choose the beach; come for the view, choose the clifftop. If you still cannot decide, families with very young children are usually happiest on the beach, while couples who like to sit and gaze at the sea from the balcony for hours tend to be more impressed by the clifftop.

Question 2: who are you travelling with, and what do you want from the room

Couples and honeymooners

The Reserve rooms in the beach zone are designed for two. Every one has a Nespresso coffee machine, a Bluetooth speaker and a Smart TV.

  • Reserve Beachfront has an open-plan bathroom that makes the 40 m² room feel like one space. It is close to the lobby, the Beachfront Pool and the spa, and it is the Reserve room with the lowest starting rate.
  • Reserve Ocean is 10 metres from the beach, with a balcony facing straight out to sea and a big circular bathtub for two.
  • Reserve Suite and Pool Villa Suite are for special occasions. Read on in the next section.

You want the fullest sea view there is

The private pool with sea view at a Pool Villa Suite

These two rooms answer the same wish in different ways.

Reserve Suite is as close to the sea as a room can be. On the ground floor and floor 2 of building E, just 5 metres from the beach, its living room faces the sea, you wake up to the water from your bed, and there is a private jacuzzi on the balcony. It is 108 m², and the whole resort has only 2 of them. It suits people who want the sound of the waves right in front of them all the time and do not need a pool of their own.

Pool Villa Suite is 9 villas on the hill beside the beach. The 5 in the front row look straight down the beach from a vantage point slightly higher than the Reserve Suite, so you see more of the shoreline and the open sea, in exchange for a 30-metre walk down to the sand. What no other room has is a private chemical-free ozone pool of 2.5 × 9 metres, a Japanese soaking tub or an outdoor bathtub with a sea view, a separate living room, a sun deck and 224 m² in all, the largest in the resort. You can have a romantic dinner served in the villa too. It is made for honeymoons, anniversaries, and anyone who wants the most privacy and the highest quality SYLVAN offers.

The one-line decision: if you want to be as close to the water as possible, choose the Reserve Suite. If you want your own pool and the most privacy, choose the Pool Villa Suite.

Family of 3

The Clifftop Pool and slide, next to the Junior Family rooms

Junior Family is designed for two parents and one child. The 63 m² room has a king bed and one single bed in the same room, so there is no need to ask for an extra bed. It is in building D, right next to the Clifftop Pool with the slide, so children can walk from the room to the pool on their own, and you can walk to breakfast at The Clifftop without taking the funicular. The view is of the pool and part of the sea, not a full sea view.

Family of 4, or you want two bedrooms

Deluxe Family is the only room with 2 bedrooms in one unit. It is 80 m², set up either as a king bed plus 2 single beds or as 2 king beds, and sleeps 4 for the price of one room. It is on the ground floor of building C, within walking distance of the pool slide and the breakfast restaurant, with a view of the garden and part of the sea. It suits families whose children are old enough to sleep in their own room, or anyone travelling with grandparents.

Several families, or a group of friends

Choose rooms that come as connecting rooms, with a door between them so you never have to step into the corridor. There are 2 types: Deluxe Clifftop on the clifftop and Deluxe Beachfront by the beach. Write in the special requests box when you book that you need connecting rooms, and we will arrange them according to what is available on the day you arrive.

Elderly guests, or wheelchair users

We have rooms prepared specifically for guests who find walking difficult, and we recommend 4 types.

  • Deluxe Clifftop in building C only, the same building as the breakfast restaurant
  • Reserve Beachfront in building A, a ground-floor room or a room on the lobby level
  • Reserve Ocean and Reserve Suite in building E, a ground-floor room

When you book, please write in the special requests box that your party includes an elderly guest or a wheelchair user and that you need a ground-floor room, so we can have the room and the ramps ready before you arrive. Building B is the only building with a lift.

You want to walk as little as possible

Reserve Ocean and Reserve Suite in building E are 5 to 10 metres from the beach and close to the Beachfront Pool and the lobby. Reserve Beachfront on floor 3 is on exactly the same level as the lobby. Some rooms on the ground floor and floor 2 of building A open from the balcony straight onto the pool; you can ask for one when you book, subject to availability on the day you arrive.

You are here for the view and the photos

The resort viewpoint, looking over Kai Bae Beach and Koh Man Nai

Panorama Suite is always a corner room, in building C on the clifftop, with a corner balcony that sees the sea on two sides, a separate living room and a jacuzzi in the bathroom. The whole resort has 5 of them. If you want the same view at a lower rate, Deluxe Clifftop gives you the same sea view from above in a 61 m² studio.

Things to know before you book

  • "Sea view" is not the same in every room. The rooms with the sea straight in front of you are Reserve Ocean, Reserve Suite, the front row of Pool Villa Suites, Deluxe Clifftop and Panorama Suite. Junior Family and Deluxe Family see only part of the sea from the terrace.
  • Beds. Most rooms can be set up with either one king bed or two single beds; tell us when you book. The exceptions are Reserve Suite and Pool Villa Suite, which have a king bed only.
  • Special requests. A particular floor, connecting rooms, a room by the pool or the front row of the pool villas can all be asked for in the special requests box when you book, and we arrange them according to what is available on the day you arrive. The exception is a wheelchair-accessible room, which you should state clearly so we can prepare it in advance.
  • Children and extra beds. The room rate includes breakfast for the room's standard number of guests. Children up to 3 years old stay free sharing with their parents, with breakfast and a cot when requested in advance. Children aged 4 to 12 sharing with their parents are charged, breakfast included, or you can ask for an extra bed, one per room. From 13 years old a child counts as an adult. The Reserve rooms and Pool Villa Suites use the sofa bed in the room instead of an extra bed, while Junior Family and Deluxe Family take no extra bed because their beds are already set. Every room can take additional guests, up to 4 people per room in total including children (5 in the Deluxe Family). The exact number of adults and children for each room is on the rooms page.
  • Breakfast is included in every rate and served only at The Clifftop on the clifftop.
  • Photos and the real room. Some rooms of the same type have a slightly different layout from the photos on the website, but all the listed facilities are the same.

Frequently asked questions

Which room is closest to the beach? The Reserve Suite, 5 metres from the beach, followed by the Reserve Ocean at 10 metres. Both are in building E.

Which rooms have a jacuzzi or a private pool? A jacuzzi in the bathroom: Panorama Suite. A jacuzzi on the balcony: Reserve Suite. A private pool: only the Pool Villa Suite. The Reserve Ocean has a large circular bathtub.

We have small children. Which room should we take? A family of 3 should choose the Junior Family, a family of 4 the Deluxe Family. Both are next to the pool with the slide on the clifftop. If you would rather be right on the beach, the Deluxe Beachfront in building B has a lift and you can ask for connecting rooms.

Can we ask for connecting rooms? Yes, in the Deluxe Clifftop and the Deluxe Beachfront. Tell us when you book, and we arrange them according to what is available on the day you arrive.

If we stay on the clifftop, is it hard to get to the beach? No. The resort's funicular runs between the clifftop and the beach in 5 minutes, from 06:00 to 23:00; outside those hours you can call a buggy. Guests staying in the beach zone take the same funicular up to breakfast every morning. This funicular is not the Shuttle Tram, which is the free shuttle to Kai Bae village 3 times a day.

We really cannot decide. Which room should we choose? Couples on a first visit, the Reserve Beachfront. Families, the Junior Family or the Deluxe Family. A special occasion, the Reserve Suite or the Pool Villa Suite.
